Fried plantains

How to make Jamaican Fried Sweet Plantain

Sweet Fried plantains are our favorite side dish! Fried plantains pair well with everything and that’s no cap. It’s something your kids will love! As it is fried to golden perfection it caramelizes and gets slightly crispy on the outside but as you bite in it’s soft and melts like butter on the inside.

Ingredients

  • 1 large * 1 large ripe plantain wait until the skin of the plantain turns black
  • 3 tbsp oil or more if needed

Instructions

  • Peel plantain and cut diagonally into one-inch-thick slices. Note: We get about 7 or 8 pieces from one large plantain.
  • Add oil to a frying pan and let the oil heat up over low-medium heat.
  • Once the oil is hot, add the slices one at a time in a circular pattern. Cook until edges turn golden brown, and flip, beginning with the first plantain you added to the pan. Repeat this process on all four sides. It will take approximately 2 minutes per side.
  • Remove cooked plantain from the pan and add to the plate lined with a paper towel to soak up excess oil. Then it's time to serve
