Jamaican Corned Beef Sandwich
The Jamaican Corned Beef Sandwich is a popular dish that has become a staple in the cuisine of Jamaica. Growing up this sandwich, made with Jamaican corned beef and served on Jamaican hard dough bread, holds a special place in a Jamaican child's heart served on a beach trip, birthday party, or bring it on a picnic. Corned Beef Sandwich brings back childhood memories, it's a tradition we will keep in our household and hopefully, it will be in your family too.
Ingredients
- 1 can Jamaican corned beef
- 2 slices of bread (preferably Jamaican hard dough bread)
- 1 small onion grated
- 2 pegs raw garlic grated or 1 tsp garlic powder
- ¼ sweet pepper grated
- ½ cup Mayonnaise or more if needed
- ¼ tsp ground allspice
- 1 tbsp complete seasoning
- 2 tbsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp dried thyme
- ½ scotch bonnet pepper (optional) don't use the seeds
- ¼ cup green onion , finely diced
Instructions
- Open the can of Jamaican corned beef and empty it into a bowl. Use a fork to break up and mash the corned beef slightly.
- Grate the onion, sweet pepper, and garlic in the bowl. Finely chop green onion and scotch bonnet pepper.
- Add black pepper, complete seasoning, allspice and mayonnaise.
- Mix it well to combine all the ingredients.
- Place the corned beef on the bread to complete the sandwich.
- Cut the sandwich in half if desired, and it's ready to serve!
