A Little Minecraft Talk
If Minecraft is new to your house, here is the short version. It’s a game built entirely out of blocks, where you gather materials, build almost anything and try to survive the night. Everything is square, from the trees to the characters.
The Creeper is one of its most famous mobs. It’s green, blocky and silent, and it sneaks up on you before you realize it’s there. Its face is simple: two square eyes and a frowning mouth. That’s why it makes such a perfect cookie. A few chocolate chunks in the right spots and everyone knows exactly who it is.
What Is Callaloo?
Callaloo is a leafy green that’s loved all over the Caribbean. In Jamaica, we steam it with onion, thyme and scallion and eat it with breakfast, saltfish, dumplings or yam. I grew up on it.
It’s mild, a little earthy and very good for you. When it’s cooked and blended smooth, it turns into a deep green purée that’s perfect for coloring baked goods.
Can You Taste the Callaloo?
Not really.
The callaloo is blended with a little sweetened condensed milk, which keeps the purée smooth and lightly sweet. The vanilla and butter lead, and the callaloo stays in the background.
What you get is a soft cookie with a natural green color and maybe a faint earthy note if you’re really looking for it. Most people just taste a good sugar cookie.

Ingredients for Callaloo Minecraft Creeper Cookies
All-Purpose Flour- the structure of the cookie.
Baking Powder and Salt- a little lift and balanced flavor.
Unsalted Butter- softened, for a rich, tender bite.
Granulated Sugar- sweetness and a soft texture.
Egg- binds the dough.
Vanilla Extract- warm flavor that rounds out the callaloo.
Callaloo Purée- cooked callaloo blended with sweetened condensed milk, then well drained. This is your green.
Lime Zest (optional)- a bright, fresh note.
Green Gel Food Coloring (optional)- for a deeper, true Creeper green.
Dark Chocolate Chunks- for the Creeper faces.
Melted Dark Chocolate- the “glue” that holds the faces on.
How to Make Callaloo Minecraft Creeper Cookies
Make the Purée
Blend cooked callaloo with the sweetened condensed milk until completely smooth. Drain it well so extra moisture doesn’t get into your dough.
Make the Dough
Whisk the dry ingredients together. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy, then mix in the egg, vanilla, callaloo purée and lime zest if using. Add the dry ingredients gradually until a soft dough forms.
Chill
Flatten the dough into a disc and freeze it until it’s firm enough to roll. Cold dough keeps those blocky edges sharp.
Cut and Bake
Roll the dough out, cut your Creeper shapes and bake until the edges are set. Let them cool completely before decorating.
Make the Creeper Faces
Melt a few chocolate chunks, dip the remaining chunks in the melted chocolate and press them onto each cookie as two square eyes and a blocky mouth. Let the chocolate harden before handling.

Tips for the Best Creeper Cookies
- Drain the purée well. Too much moisture makes sticky dough and spreading cookies.
- Keep everything cold. If the cutouts soften, chill the tray before baking.
- Cool the cookies completely before adding chocolate, or it will slide off.
- Use the melted chocolate sparingly. A little goes a long way.
- Do the faces in the same pattern each time so the Creepers look consistent.
- Add the gel coloring a drop at a time. You can always add more.
Variations
Milk Chocolate Faces- for a softer, sweeter bite.
Lime Glaze- a thin lime glaze under the chocolate for extra brightness.
Mini Creepers- use a smaller cutter for party platters.
Other Mobs- try a different Minecraft shape with the same dough.
Gift Tins- stack them with parchment between each layer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need green food coloring?
No. The callaloo gives a natural green. The gel coloring just makes it brighter.
Can I use spinach instead of callaloo?
Yes, cooked and well-drained spinach will work, though callaloo gives the Jamaican touch.
Why did my cookies spread?
Usually the dough was too warm or the purée was too wet. Drain well and chill again.
Can I make these without a Creeper cutter?
Yes. Roll the dough into a rectangle and cut the shape with a knife and ruler. The blocky look is part of the charm. If you want clean edges every time, here is a Creeper cookie cutter (affiliate link).

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.”
John 15:4 NKJV
A Word of Wisdom
Jesus Christ is all we need in this life. As He said, He is the tree and we are the branches. If a branch is broken off the tree, it no longer lives but starts to die and dry out. And what do we do with dead branches? We burn them for fire. This is what will happen to anyone that is not attached to Jesus. The end of that persons fate is hell fire. But if we abide in Him, or stay attached to Jesus, we will have eternal life. He lives forever, He has already been immortalized, and He promises this to us believers.
So how do we abide in Him? By keeping His words in us. He is the Word of God that became flesh. All the words that He spoke come from our Father in heaven Yah. Jesus is Yah in the flesh. God is a Spirit. So in order for us to know Him, He came as a human being through Jesus, and called Him His only Son. Jesus is in Yah and Yah is in Him. All His words bring life. For man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of Yah.
Every single word that Jesus spoke came from Yah. If we abide in what Jesus told us, we shall never die, but we will all live. Love Him and keep His commandments. Keep His sayings. Hold on to His words of life. His parables, everything we read in the gospels, keep them in your memory, to the point where you start to speak just like Him. And as He said, out of your belly shall flow living waters. Why? Because the words you will start to speak will be His words of life, for us to share to others as well.
Abide in Jesus, He will manifest Himself to you and bless you with the Holy Spirit, that seals us with His promises and gives us the power to overcome death unto eternal life
