Tips for the Best Rummy Nut Ice Cream
Soak your raisins fully — overnight is best.
Toast the Grape-Nuts (optional) — a quick toast brings out even more nutty flavor.
Add Grape-Nuts during the last few minutes — prevents them from becoming too soft.
Don’t overdo the rum — too much can keep the ice cream from setting properly.
Let it soften before scooping — allow a few minutes at room temp to make it perfect. The rum keeps this ice cream scoopable straight from the freezer.
Storage Tips
Store in an airtight container in the freezer.
Best enjoyed within 2 weeks for maximum flavor and texture.
Let it sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before scooping to soften slightly.
FAQs
What type of rum should I use?
We recommend Jamaican dark rum (like Wray & Nephew or Appleton Estate) for a bolder flavor. White rum also works if you prefer a lighter more delicate note.
Can I make this ice cream without an ice cream maker?
Yes! Use the no-churn method by whipping heavy cream to stiff peaks. Folding in the custard base, and freezing in a loaf pan.
Can I use different nuts?
Absolutely — pecans, walnuts, almonds, or even cashews work beautifully. Toast them first for extra flavor.
Will the alcohol affect the texture?
The small amount of rum prevents the ice cream from freezing rock-hard and adds smoothness. Don’t add too much, or it won’t set properly. Stick to the recommended amount.
How Do I Substitute Condensed Milk For Ice Cream?
Make your homemade ice cream with condensed milk, replace it with coconut condensed milk. This is the vegan option. This is what we used. Or you can use Cashew or Almond milk.

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.”
Psalms 28:7
Wisdom
At times in life we all have those days we feel weak. We feel like our strength is leaving or failing us. We feel like at times we cannot defend ourselves when the enemy comes to attack. But as believers we have the words of our Lord and Savior Jesus.
Psalms is a great book to read when we feel this way. It reminds us we have a Heavenly Father to pray to, who hears us and will answer our prayers. He protects us, and tells us no weapon formed against us shall prosper.
When we don’t have strength, Jesus is there, when we feel weak, we can pray to Him and He will give us strength. When we feel unprotected we can pray to Him for protection. We can always trust in Him. As it says on the back of USA money, In God we trust.
Wisdom cont…
But we know which God we trust in. Jesus. An when we put all of our faith, all of our hope, and all of our trust in Him, He will help us. We all can testify of times in our lives when we had no one else but Him, and He was there to help.
He was there to protect us. When everyone else says no I can’t, God says yes. An that’s why He gets the glory, He gets the honor, He gets the praise He rightfully deserves. He is always there. He will never leave us nor forsake us. Even when we feel like He is not there, we must remember He is in us. Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in this world. Hallelujah! Rejoice in the Lord always! Praise ye the Lord!
