“But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.” II Timothy 2:23-26 NKJV
Wisdom
As believers in Jesus Christ, it is hard to teach nonbelievers about Him. The snare and traps of the devil are strong in their minds, and they have no idea they are doing His will. Just as we used to be in ignorance before Jesus came knocking. But praise be to God that we answered the door when He knocked. Now He sent us out as sheep amongst wolves to find His lost sheep. We all have become His servants and must learn how to behave like servants.
Here we have the apostle Paul, who was chosen to be a servant, an apostle, teaching his son in the faith Timothy how to carry himself. We can learn from this letter what we all need to work on as His servants, so when we go out amongst the wolves, God may grant them repentance when we preach the Gospel, so they too can come to the truth.
The wolves will argue with us, try to beat us, and even kill us, but a servant of the Lord must avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition. Jesus said these things would happen to us if we followed Him. But in the end, we will receive eternal life. Endure as a good servant of Christ, to the end of our lives, so we can receive the salvation of our souls.
