What Are Jamaican Banana Chips?
Jamaican banana chips are made from green (unripe) bananas. This is different from sweet banana chips, which use ripe bananas. These bananas are firm and starchy, making them perfect for slicing thin and frying to a crisp.
They usually come seasoned with just salt. But some brands or home cooks add black pepper, chili, or even jerk seasoning for extra flavor.
Why Green Bananas?
Green bananas are:
- Firm and starchy – great for crispy chips
- Mild in flavor – perfect for savory seasonings
- Lower in sugar than ripe bananas – less sweetness, more crunch
This is why green bananas are the traditional choice for Jamaican banana chips.

Wisdom
As believers in the Highest, it cannot be explained how important it is to have God’s Word in your life. It reveals Truth, for He is The Way, The Truth, and The Life. That is what brings us closer to Him.
It is what allows us to know a little about Him and what He wants us to do in this life. It contains His law, His statues, His commandments, His gospel, and even prophecy and many stories that we can all relate to.
Once we know his law we know sin so it helps us to refrain from sinning. There are prayers, songs, books of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. The Bible contains 66 books written by different authors that were inspired by God to write about Him. It keeps us in His will for our lives.
Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”. Jesus is the word that became flesh. He instructs us to eat his flesh and drink his blood. These actions are so we may have life. We must continue in His word the Holy Bible.
Psalm 1 lets us know that we should meditate in His law day and night, and we will become like trees planted by rivers of water, that brings forth fruit each season, whose leaves shall not wither and whatsoever he does shall prosper.
Wisdom continued
Knowing His word also helps us to build up our faith. By believing in his words, and the promises he promised us. Hoping and standing on what he says knowing that in the end, he promises salvation to those who believe in him and his word. So long as long as we love Him and keep his commandments. Keep His word close to your heart.
Keep Jesus in your heart. In Revelation, His name is The Word of God. John tells us, that in the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. Continue to read the Bible daily. We should make it our priority as believers in Him. Read the Bible from front to back. I once heard that Bible means Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth and I believe it. Before we all die we should know our Lord and Savior Jesus, whose story is only in the Bible. Read His Word and keep His word in your heart.

- Add the banana to an ice bath. Soak for 10-15minutes.
- Heat the oil, either in a deep sauté pan or fryer, ideal temperature for frying these is between 375 F -400 F, there should be enough oil to fully cover all the bananas.
- Now its time to add the bananas to the hot oil; make sure to be careful not to overcrowd the pot this prevents them from sticking together.
- Fry until the chips get a golden color, approximately 2-4 minutes
- Remove the chips from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- While still hot, sprinkle with salt or other seasonings.
